Collapsitarian Runner’s Blog, Vol. II: Nothing to do but Run

Well, fuck. Nothing to do but run. Thought I’d talk about music I’m listening to recently, the state of corona retardation here in Japan, and also an ultramarathon I am hoping to run (and have been training for). Not sure if it’s gonna be held this year, but fingers crossed. If you missed the first, video version of ‘Collapsitarian Runner’s Blog,’ you can view it here.

By the way, I’d consider myself an ‘optimistic’ collapsitarian in that I am waiting on and preparing for the collapse of this psychopathic bullshit system, so we can actually begin building something new and positive, but on a sound foundation.

State of Japan

The national state of emergency is set to be lifted for some areas here — including mine — which is cool. I see in the news lots of predictive talk about a ‘second wave,’ however, so who knows what will really develop. Things will never be back to ‘normal,’ as the totalitarian slide globally has now been set in motion in unprecedented fashion, either way.

But, might be nice to hold onto some semblance of normalcy (ability to get sunlight without facing idiot cops, and ability to still make at least some money).

Businesses in my area are shut down or slow, with some posting signs on their doors notifying folks they’ve applied for government assistance (this is part of the protocol for receiving an entrepreneurial subsidy). Saw one such biz today, with a man I assume to have been the owner or a government official standing out front taking pictures of the notice.

Music

Defining music for me these days has been a lot of War on Drugs, Aphex Twin, and M83. Today I ran to Aphex Twin’s Selected Ambient Works 85-92, which was just right for the vibe. Yesterday, after seeing enough videos of cops abusing people, I had to punish my ears with NWA’s Straight Outta Compton, and ran the afternoon’s three canned lemon sours and pent up rage out of my system. Ran to Coma Cinema’s 2013 album Posthumous Release the day before. Good shit, and highly recommend.

Shinetsu Five Mountains Trail Ultramarathon

This is the race I’ve had my sights set on since January, and which I’ve been training for. An ultramarathon through the hills of Niigata and Nagano. There are two versions, one which is 110 km, and another which is 100 miles. I’m gonna run the 100-miler should signups be posted anytime soon. Last year’s race had signups open up in May, so I should know by the end of this month whether it’s on or not. Guess I should just email them to find out for sure.

Anyway, with everything else being cancelled, I’m really hoping I can do this.
